Friends and family play an important role in the life of a student. Children who are supported and encouraged to read perform much better.
That's one of the reasons we wanted you to know about our Read-A-Thon at Lyons Elementary School. The Read-A-Thon allows us to raise funds while promoting a love of reading with our students.
We invite you to make a donation that will benefit Fabian and Lyons Elementary School. When donating, we encourage you to leave a message for Fabian, which means so much to young readers.
Your support is very appreciated.
We are excited to host a Read-A-Thon at Lyons Elementary School.
At our Lyons Elementary School library, our priority is to make sure that our students have the engaging books they want and need to read and grow into strong life-long learners. We can't do that without your support. This year the library has a goal to generate $5,000 to purchase new and engaging library books. Last year we focused on our Spanish book collection and added over $10,000 in new Spanish books. This year we want to offer some of these same great books in English. We also want to expand our most popular series collections like Wings of Fire, Bad Guys, Dog Man and Diary of a Wimpy Kid in English and Spanish. Research shows that students read more when they have access to engaging, relevant and interesting books. When students practice reading more, they become more proficient readers. Help us in our effort to offer the books our students want to read. If you want to learn more about our library goals and how these support our campus and District objectives, contact our campus librarian, Carrie Pena, at carrie.pena@houstonisd.org.
